Ngorongoro
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of Tanzania’s most remarkable landscapes, combining exceptional wildlife, volcanic scenery, pastoral communities and important cultural heritage.
At its heart is the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a vast volcanic caldera containing a rich concentration of wildlife. A crater game drive offers opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros.
The wider conservation area is also home to Maasai communities whose traditional pastoral lifestyle forms an important part of the region’s cultural landscape.
Visitors can combine wildlife viewing with cultural experiences, scenic viewpoints and exploration of the highlands.
Ngorongoro is a highlight of almost every Northern Tanzania safari and provides an unforgettable combination of wildlife and dramatic volcanic scenery.
Best For: Big Five, wildlife viewing, photography, landscapes and cultural experiences.
