Tarangire National Park

Where elephants, baobabs and wild landscapes meet

Just a few hours from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania’s most distinctive safari destinations. Famous for its enormous elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and seasonal wildlife concentrations, Tarangire offers an authentic safari experience away from the busier routes.

Come for the elephants. Stay for the landscapes, wildlife and unforgettable African sunsets.

When to Visit Tarangire ( June – October)

The dry season is the best time to see large concentrations of elephants and other wildlife gathering around the Tarangire River and remaining water sources. November–April brings greener landscapes and excellent birdlife, while some wildlife disperses beyond the park during the wetter months.

Best for: Elephants • Baobabs • Wildlife • Birdwatching

What Makes Tarangire Different?

Unlike the open plains of the Serengeti, Tarangire has a more varied landscape of baobab-studded savannah, woodland, seasonal wetlands and riverine areas.

The Tarangire River is especially important during the dry months, attracting wildlife from surrounding areas.

This creates spectacular opportunities to observe animals gathering, feeding and interacting around water.
